If you live in the Chicagoland area and love Netflix’s Stranger Things, the dope AF sci-fi thriller about the suddenly other-worldly happenings in 1980’s Hawkins, Indiana, and wouldn’t mind some responsible after-work libations (because who wouldnt?), then Logan Square’s pop-up bar “The Upside Down” is for you. The name is a nod to the show’s evil nether-verse haunting the Byers’ family and crew, and you won’t be disappointed. I haven’t been yet, but apparently stepping into the bar takes you back in time to an 80’s themed dance party, put on by the Hawkins Middle School A.V. Club (you have to have watched the show to know what I’m talking about, sorry).
(Photos via Eater Chicago) You can dine on delicious show-themed food and drinks including a slushy with a waffle in it called “Eleven’s Eggo’s,” a cocktail called the “Demogorgun,” named after the show’s creep-tastic monster creature, and an entire host of other themed menu items.
The pop-up bar is the brain child of Emporium Popups, and where designing the joint is concerned, they left no stone unturned. Adorning the walls are the Byers’ family zany other-dimension communication Christmas lights, and other design installations from local artists.
“The Upside Down” is open the following times:
Weds-Fri: 5pm-2am
Sat: 12pm-3am
Sun: 12pm-2am
Address: 2367 N. Milwaukee Ave
I’ll definitely be hitting “The Upside Down” up this weekend, and if you haven’t seen Stranger Things, and are into sci-fi and fantasy thrillers well then damnit! This is the show, and bar, for you. If you go, let me know!
Xx,
