Meditation for Times Like These

In times like these, when the world is justifiably full of angst, anger, anxiety, and confusion over the Covid-19 pandemic, a bit of peace is needed. The truth is, the virus is either coming to where you live, or it’s there. All we can do is follow the CDC’s recommended guidelines for trying to mitigate this disaster, and keep it from effecting you, and those you love. The BEST away to avoid getting sick is — you guessed, to avoid being exposed to the virus in the first place, and come on guys, wash your hands. And while it’s a part of American life to gather, to congregate, to share in the joys of each other, it’s time to depart company, at least for now. No, this is not a hoax, no, it wasn’t something created by mass media to improve ratings (while it IS doing that, don’t forget, they have the presidential primaries for that). Being a journalist myself, for the vast majority of us, we’re just doing our job. Please, take this seriously, and while you may be young, healthy, or both, let’s not increase the number of infected — there by putting those of us that are most vulnerable, at risk of losing their life. Just chill out for awhile.

Whew, now that I’m done that serious-ass PSA, let’s get to the reason for my post. I’ve been in meditation practice for the past year. It is undoubtedly one of the tools that has kept my anxiety at bay, and put a lot in my life into perspective. It’s helped me to slow down, and to stop those constant, ever-present thoughts that run through all of our minds. It’s helped me to live in the present when I let it. Meditation and mindfulness has a brought me a measure of peace during this time when anxiety in the world is at an all-time high. For this reason, I created this visualization meditation for you guys. It’s ten minutes. Try it out. Whether you’re new to meditation, or can levitate like Goku, this meditation is for everyone. Before you begin, make sure to find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed. Light some candles, burn some sage, turn the lights down low. Whatever you need to quiet your mind, just for a bit of time — do it. And let me know how it goes.
