Happy, Happy Hour – The World’s Most Bucolic Bars

Summer is here, which means sundresses, flip flops, and boozy day parties. But are you tired of the same old neighborhood bars and stuffed up after-work happy hours? Those day parties at the same old spots can get, well, old. It’s 2018, why not take your happy hour international, and grab some libations from one of these bucolic bars around the world. If turquoise seas and white sand doesn’t inspire your wanderlust, I’m sure exotic cocktails unique to these locals will. Check them out.

Rick’s Cafe – Negril, Jamaica
Drinks, a magical, incandescent sunset, and the best cliff diving in the Caribbean sums up Rick’s Cafe. If you’re headed to Negril for any reason, this place is a tourist mainstay. I suggest you go well before the sunset. This place get’s crowded, but the view is well worth it.

Pelican Bar – St. Elizabeth, Jamaica
Just seats booze and breeze. Hand’s down one of the best beach bars in the Caribbean, Pelican Bar at Jakes Treasure Beach Resort is only accessible by a short boat ride. Built on a shoal with only a thatch roof, bartender and gorgeous views, this is really a place for happy hour where you can get away from it all.

The Red Sea Bar – Eilat, Israel
Jesus made water into wine, therefore I conclude that water and libations must go good together. Eilat, Israel (His old stomping grounds) presents The Red Sea Star Bar; an oceanic themed bar and restaurant located almost twenty feet underwater.

The Rock – Zanzibar, Africa
Rising above the Indian Ocean on a natural rock formation is the unique The Rock restaurant and bar in Zanzibar, Africa. The motherland, drinks, and turquoise sea? Wooo, I could get lost in this paradise. Talk about efficient, most of the restaurants food comes directly from the sea that surrounds it.  During low-tide, visitors can get to the resto by foot, but once high-tide comes in they must be taken back to Michanwi Pingwe beach by boat. Sh*t. If it meant getting to this bar I’d float.

Museum Bar H.R. Giger – Chur, Switzerland
Talk about being in the belly of the beast, when one walk’s into the H.R. Giger Museum Bar in Chur Switzerland, you get a feeling that you been transported into the cavernous, cathedral-like belly of a whale. Skeletal arches and fossilized bone like seating, we suddenly sympathize with Jonah, EXCEPT, if he’d had a drink, riding that wave would have been breezy. Definitely a must see.

UMbar – North Male Atoll, Maldives
UMbar at Huvafen Fushi Hotel brings a whole new meaning to not leaving the sand to get a drink while on vacay. The floor, made almost entirely of Maldivian sand, overlooks the awe worthy ocean and infinity pool. Incandescent mother of pearl tiles and turquoise accents complete this bar where you can get drunk in luxury.

Beach Tree Bar – Kaupulehu-kona, Hawaii
I know y’all were wondering when I’d get to somewhere a little more local. Although Hawaii is a several hour plane ride away for most of us it is the U.S. right? Your semi-jet lag will pay off when you reach the Four Season’s Beach Tree Bar. Huge drinks, and an unbeatable view of the pacific just feet from the water are this bar’s signatures.

Uxua Praia – Bahia, Brazil
Beautiful bodies rockin’ out on the beaches of Brazil with liquored-up libations. Yup, that’s Uxua Praia in Bahia Brazil. Huge cushioned sofas with a bar made out of a fishing boat. Fantasy happy hour anyone?

Baba Nest – Phuket, Thailand
WTF! I can’t look at images of this bar without drooling. Maybe it’s the floating barge with VIP ready tables and huge cushioned pillows on top of the infinity pool with unobstructed views of the ocean. Or maybe after all this bar talk I need a drink. EITHER WAY Baba Nest in Phuket, Thailand is a must sea. Yeah. I saw how I spelled that.

Ponta dos Ganchos Bar – Brazil
All I have to tell you is that Beyoncé brings her gloriously golden cakes to this place and y’all will go flocking. Brazil’s most exclusive resort, Ponta dos Ganchos has a glorious beach bar with lounge-tastic daybeds, and delicious cocktails. Did I mention Beyoncé? Oh yeah.

Know of any other bars to add to the list? Leave ’em in the comments below, and as always, let me know if you go!
